This was so much more interesting when there wasn't the smart phones. 1987 first solo international trip to a country I hadn't even known didn't use the word No for no. Found a youth hostel near the airport and the next day woke up to bombs exploding and people dying from machine gun fire nearby; it was an actual war that started that day. Haven't gone back to the middle east since then and I do my research, online lol, first.

I relate very much with this post as I started my digital nomad life as a motorcycle rider around the globe.In my personal experience, I made sure to find my own rental place first-hand and started integrating with the local community by grocery shopping in the area and attending couch surfing meetings where locals welcomed visitors. Once friendship were made I would group join parties, pubs, karaoke night and start dating local girls I met during these events.I never spent more than 1 year in a place, but always left with great memories and great friends which I am still in contact with today.
