Any tips for travelling cheap?

Don't smoke, don't drink (seriously, a lot of travellers waste their money on that), don't use taxis, and choose hostels over hotels, cheap eats over restaurants, cook yourself as often as possible. Don't do the typical tourist stuff (it can get really expensive; e.g. in many countries in Africa you can pay from 100 Dollars per day for a Safari, but you can also see Elephants while hitchhiking Botswana for free, or spot by chance a Giraffe when looking out the train / bus window in South Africa / Namibia). Look for flight offers, have friends everywhere (staying for free is even better than in hostels), don't travel too fast, choose rather "cheap" countries, in which after changing your money it is worth more than in your home country, so that a meal that would cost you normally 5-10 EUR, only costs you 1-3 EUR in that country. Be creative! Be friendly! Be open! Be grateful! I have met a few amazing people while travelling who let me stay at their home. It was a wonderful and unique experience, and I am very happy that they have let me into their life for a few days. That way I also got a glimpse into their culture and daily life which I would not have got in a hotel isolated from the locals.

Don't eat unhealthy, junk food, only eat things that are absolutely necessary. On food you can save a lot as well
