Question from a new digital nomad - how do you do this more affordably?! Airbnbs are expensive! A friend and I are starting our digital nomad journey in August, and would love any advice for traveling around the US. Digital nomads in the US tend to be vanlifers rather than Airbnb users.

Get out of the US, slow down and get monthly or at least weekly rates. Look for house swaps if you have one, house sitting, etc. Don't treat it like a very long vacation. Shop like a local, make you own food often. Lots of little things.

Always negotiate directly with AirBnB hosts when you’re staying for 1+ months. We have gotten on average about 49% off the published nightly rates for the 2+ years we’ve been traveling full time. I made a video explaining the strategy I use. PM me if you’d like the link.

Here's my other hacks: 1. Find a city/area with a lot of airbnbs, and pick your favorite 2-3 and send the host a message2. Let the host know you're interested in staying for at least a week, up to a month. The longer the stay, the more likely you'll receive a discount3. Ask for a 20-30% reduction4. Especially target new listings with no reviews5. Let the potential host know you are a digital nomad and love their place, would leave a glowing review.6. Have a good standing of reviews from hosts in your profile, let's them know you're a great guest7. Let the potential host know you'll share their listing on social media.The place in Tulum I stayed at, I shared with the Girls LOVE Travel group (over 1 million members) and got this level of engagement, nearly 7,000 likes and like 1,000 comments.
