Has anyone been asked by someone, "what do you do?", and you just don't want to answer? I know many DN's are shameless self-promoters, but the ones that don't want to answer, how do you handle it? I'm tired of telling people I'm a Hitman, or "Thats Classified", etc, etc..

Lmao half of you spend hours positioning your macs for that work from the beach instagram pic and get mad when people ask what you do for a living. I promise you no one is gonna be floored by your earth shattering revelation that you are a yoga instructor/cryptocurrency trader/freelance photographer/front end developer etc. And please spare me the “boring question, I don’t let my job define me” comments when you all make it your life’s mission to define yourself by your ability to work remotely and literally form DN coworking spaces or even coliving spaces in Tulum and Chiang Mai. Most people aren’t digital nomads, and they will be curious when they come across people with lifestyles that exist beyond the corporate 9-5 paradigm. There’s nothing wrong with that. Own what you do and wear it proudly. Or make shit up. Or don’t answer at all. I assure you they will already have forgotten by the time you answer.

Wow, I never thought the digital nomad community was so stuck-up. I don't make shit up to avoid conversation or belittle people assuming "they would not understand anyway." I just tell the truth. 😳 Talking about your job/education/career is extremrly normal? It's one of the first questions most people will ask, especially when you are a foreigner because people are curious about what you do in a certain place. Never thought it was weird or intrusive and no one ever gave me silly answers like a disposable lighter repairman or a male escort as far as I can remember. 😐

From a communications standpoint, NEVER ask people "What do you do?" Most people hate it - especially those who maybe feel shameful about what they do (unemployed, stay-at-home moms, digital nomads;)) A better thing to ask people, "How do you spend your time." But don't be afraid to just change the subject when people do (and always will) ask you.
